Edinburgh St James has announced that the retail element of the mixed-use development will now open in Spring 2021, which will be followed by the leisure, residentialand apart hotel. W Edinburgh is scheduled to open in 2022.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the ongoing disruption to the construction, retail and hospitality sectors, the October 2020 opening of the retail element has been delayed. However, the phased nature of the development and the flexibility that it affords the scheme, means that the Everyman Cinema, Roomzzz Aparthotel, new retail and restaurants will still open in 2021. The 152 luxury apartments by Native Land will also be completed in 2022.
Martin Perry, Director of Development at Edinburgh St James, said:
“Throughout the lockdown period, although the construction site has been closed to ensure the safety and health of our team, wehave been working closely with all our partners to keep up the momentum to deliver this significant project for the city of Edinburgh.
“A new normal demands a new kind of retail destination -a development that can respond to an ever-changing situation, one that serves the needs of its community as well as visitors to the city. Our decision to postpone the retail opening allows our teamand partners the time to review and adjust, and ensure we create a place that can be truly enjoyed for generations to come.”
